53 canning jars down . . .
. . . only 247 left to go! After posting incessantly on Freecycle and Craigslist, I finally got an e-mail from another bartering bride. She got married this May and had 2.5 dozen pint-sized canning jars leftover, along with a bunch of other stuff. The jars were used as candle holders and she glued ribbon around them, but they weren’t heavily glued, so it’ll be easy to take off. Michael and I spent an hour with her and her husband on Sunday, teaching them the basics of the waltz in exchange for two boxes of her leftover wedding items – ribbons, vases, votives, floral picks, etc. A lot of the items are things that I’ll be giving away (or bartering away!), but it was definitely a worthwhile barter. Only 247 canning jars left to find! The hunt continues . . . |
23 Canning Jars Down . . .
only 277 left to go! I just made my very first canning jar barter. I’ve been scouring Craigslist for weeks now, trying to find cheap, free, or for-barter canning jars and a couple days ago I came across a post – 23 never-used, pint-sized canning jars for $10. So I wrote and asked if she’d consider a trade. Five or six e-mails later and we had come to a satisfactory agreement – her jars in exchange for a handful of books I had. The best part is that the books were ones I’d acquired at no cost! So I really got those jars for free! Last night Michael took the books and drove down to the local Babies-R-Us to meet up with “the canning jar lady” and make the swap. So now I am 23 canning jars richer. Only 277 left to go. (The canning jars are what I’ll be using as drinking glasses for our wedding. So I may actually need a few more than 300, but that’s the magic number I’m going with right now.) |
